Bowling Ball Loft Records

Many of the records remain open. This may be deceiving. In the setting of the Unlimited Heavy Parachute Duration record there were two M's, six O's and five P's launched. Estimated 480 pounds of propellant burned. These motors, mostly single use, would have cost $48,000 had they been purchased at "retail prices".

To claim a record contact AHPRA by E mail .  We would like to receive the following information. This is to establish a data base on the event, not to judge the flight.

Time or altitude, include  name of timer (s), witness to altitude.

If you have a print out from an altimeter, i.e. R-DAS, Cambridge.

Photographs. File size less that 100K each. Or a web page link with pictures and description.

Filled out data capture form, it is in MS Word format.

When we get flights using Hybrid or black powder motors we will start a separate list for all categories.

Notes:
1.  Altitude must be sensed by barometric altimeter
2.  At the Bowling Ball Lite competition at LDRS 20 the Correll Brothers won with a very light rocket called Bald is Beautiful. The altitude was measured by an accelerometer but there were some issues because the rocket had a spiral path. Since 2001 accelerometers can no longer be used for reporting altitudes in this competition. Perhaps it wasn't this high, but it was still very high! Personally, I don't think either record will stay long, altitudes above 10,000 feet are quite possible with the right rocket and a K motor.
3.  'Sumo' was launched with both an 8 and a 16 pound bowling ball!

* Mallets Bay, VT is part of Lake Champlain. They launch off the frozen lake.
