Flare Rocket
This is an experimental decoy flare made in the '80's. I had it in my hands just long enough to take these pictures.
The flare is an oval shape that fits in the standard I.R. launcher on aircraft. When fired it comes out lit and turns into the wind. It was designed to have enough thrust to go faster than the aircraft. The propellant was a Mg/ Teflon mix similar to the I.R. flare. Note the nozzle is oval.
Main part of the unit is stainless steel with aluminum pop out fins.
